I bought the same guitar new about 20 years ago. The electrics were awful, the pickup was bad and packed in. The replacement was awful too. I recently spend almost £200 on a pickup configuration that works beautifully. Why did I not get another guitar? Because it plays well. It has a nice tone and fits me. By all means, get one, but be prepared to invest in a good quality pickup, fitted by qualified luthiers.

Thanks for this. It would be interesting if you could set it up so people could close their eyes and not know which one you were playing. Let their ears decide. You could just introduce with “test 1 full picking” for example

Both sound great and would be equal in different situations. LL6 has a drier compressed sound, great for recording, this video, it recorder great. I would like to hear the LL 16 after a few years, that guitar has more overtones and sustain. I like them both. 👍

I go for the cheaper 6 overall. A bit huskier. I've owned both and was more impressed with the 6 more for some reason. Profoundly informative, fine review here.

I’d take a middle option,…definitely swap the speaker AND swap just the preamp tubes or even just the single preamp tube closest to the input jack (V1).

this video also proves a point : you can do absolutely anything with a tele. It really is the most versatile guitar ever designed imo.

1:10 vs 1:26 1:38 vs 2:39 5:27 vs 6:12 *When you play these clips back and forth, over and over, you can hear the LL16/LLX16 is a bit more bright with a bit more midrange. But that is all there is for audible differences. You can change that by changing string gauge and the material they are made from, as well as the engineered style. Ie: flat wound, round wound or D'addrio silk strings vs silver coated vs copper coated vs nickel coated, etc.*

Great review! You still have both guitars. It’s been a while since you did this review. Ll6 sounds to be warmer which i actually like better. Have the ll6 right now on 45 day trail from guitar center. It’s used 2014 model excellent condition. What would nice to see a review between the newer fg830 and the ll6. Think the new tunes sound like it soud is all over and sou ds like a blown speaker. The HH speaker sounds smooth and precise . But to each there own. If it makes you happy. I heard it and played now with the swap. I would of passed.

LL6 I favour maybe bc it is a natural… on the other side the sun burst makes a great looking guitar and it still sounds great!!! I play a Yamaha FG5 I am a happy owner of any Yamaha Guitar and I a proud owner of an Old School Yamaha Classical guitar I learned from and found in many Music Rooms way back in the 1970s, decades old. Yamaha guitars are made reliable and sound great! Thanks for the Video Bud

Thanks for your video, very informative, I have just put a Jensen C10R speaker in my Laney Cub 10 and it makes a huge difference, so the tubes will be next !!! The clips that hold the tubes in do look a bit confusing to remove though !!

I bought a yamaha fgx 830 c there is an active pickup system 66 equalizer, it's convenient for me, but I have a few more days to exchange the price is a little less than LL 16 ,, I want to record at home in the sound card line, so I wonder if the recorder will be better orat least it also works well as system66 on the 830
